Tanaka Farms

On Friday my friend Jane and her daughter’s preschool had a field trip to Tanaka Farms in Irvine. It’s an organic farm ran year round and you can go and pick your own strawberries this time of year. We went a few years ago with Gunnar’s preschool class, but Sawyer didn’t remember it and I was pregnant with Greta. So Sawyer, Greta and I and the Hernandez family were invited to tag along.

You take a big tractor ride out to the fields and they stop and teach you about organic farming methods and they let everyone sample fresh cilantro, radishes, spinach, romaine lettuce, and carrots. And once you get into the strawberry fields you can eat as much as you like right from the ground, and you have a basket to fill up to take home with you. The kids just plopped themselves down in a row and went to town eating. They were delicious. And the kids had a blast filling their baskets. Here’s some highlights from the day.
